    • silence is not the absence of communication
    • can provide time to reflect for both parties
    • worthwhile as long as it has a persope and does not frighten the pt (ex: "the silent treatment")

    • indirect aggressive behavior that is dishonest
    • uses manipulation instead of assertiveness
    • undermines others by expressing the opposite of what they feel
    • usually critical and sarcastic
  9. three signs that you want to say no
    • 1. hesitation
    • 2. feeling cornered
    • 3. waiting to make a commitment
  10. how do you say no?
    • 1. assess if the person's request is reasonable
    • 2. use your right to ask for more information
    • 3. practice saying no
    • 4. learn to say no without apologizing
