  1. What is the purpose of an overhead distribution transformer?
To step down primary voltage to secondary voltage and supply customers
  2. What are the most common single-phase and three-phase secondary voltages?
    • Single Phase: 120/240
    • Three Phase: 120/208 or 347/600
  3. How does BC Hydro protect its overhead transformers and what advantage does this method provide?
Separate primary fusing to isolate a defective transformer. This reduces the time required to locate a faulted transformer and thus limits the outage time to customers.
  4. How can a three-phase transformer bank be modified to operate with one transformer out of service?
Several of the three-phase connections can be modified to operate with one transformer out of service. This allows service to be maintained while repairs on a faulty transformer are carried out, although the bank capacity is reduced to about 57% of normal for delta and 50% of normal for star or wye
