  1. The pharmacist hands you a 1.5L bottle of a 20% solution and asks that you mix it with sterile water to make as much 12% solution as possible. How much sterile water will you use ?A. 525mLB. 800mLC. 1000mLD. 1250mL
    • X/1500ml = 20ml/100ml
    •     X=300ml
    • 300ml/Y= 12ml/100ml
    • Y= 2500
    • 2500-1500= 1000ml
  2. A Pharmacy Tech has been given 300mL of a 15% hydrochloric acidsolution. The pharmacist asks the technician to dilute the solution to 1000mL with sterile water and to label the final solution. What percent should appear on the label?
    • C1 x V1 = C2 x V2C - ConcentrationV - Volume1)
    • (.15)(300mL) = ( X )(1000mL)
    • (.15)(300) = ( X )(1000)
    • 45 = 1000X
    • Now you have the concentration of the larger volume..045 = X or 4.5%
  3. 720ml of mixture over 6 hours
    Volume(ml)/minutes * drop factor(gtt/ml)= flow rate (gtt/minute)

    • 720mL ÷ 6 Hrs = 120mL/Hr
    • determine how much per Minute.
    • 120mL/Hr ÷ 60(min/Hr) = 2mL/min
    • We arrived at 2mL/min
    • The Infusion set device delivers 10 gtt/ml,
    • Now, simply take the amount of ml/min and multiply it by the gtt/ml.
    • 2ml/min x 10gtt/ml = 20gtt/min
  4. 1.5L of a solution at a rate of 150ml/Hr
    1500ml ÷ 150ml/Hr = 10 HoursThe solution will last for 10 Hours (Time)
  5. 1.50g ÷ 2-----200ml ÷ 2
Now, our converted fraction is:.75g-----100mL6)Now look at the numerator ! Our answer is 0.75%
Now, our converted fraction is:.75g-----100mL6)Now look at the numerator ! Our answer is 0.75%
  6. A script calls for 25 grams of Hydrocortisone cream 15%. Your Pharmacy stocks both 5% and 20% formulations. How much of the 20% will you use in this order ?
    • first i take to two concentrations on hand
    • 20 and 10 but we want 15% so we subtract both of the ones on hand with what we want in a tic tac toe fashion and then we conclude that we neeed 10 parts 20% and 5 parts of 10%
    • then we deivide the total parts by the number of parts we need of 20% and then multiply it by the total grams 25 *0.67=
    • then we subtract this number and know how many grams of each we shall need
    • 16.75 and 8.25
  7. Dr. Guzman has prescribed a dosage of 500mg/m2 of drug "P" to a 36 month old boy. The boy weights 33 Lbs. and is 33 Inches tall. What will the dosage be?

    BSA(m2) = √ (inches x Lbs.) ÷ 3131
    • 1) First, let's find out the BSA :1.1) BSA(m2) = √ (33 inches x 33 Lbs.) ÷ 31311.2) BSA(m2) = √ (1089) ÷ 31311.3) BSA(m2) = √ 0.34781221.4)
    • BSA = 0.59 (m2)
    •  Next, apply that to the Dosage:5oomgx0.59=295mg
