  2. Exterior Safety Inspection
    • Chocks - Installed
    • Control Surfaces - Clear

    (Flight controls are unobstructed from ground equipment and are free from ice, snow, or frost)

    • AML (Tail # and Write-ups)
    • Gear Pins (4)
    • CB's
    • Nav Switch
    • Radar
    • Gear Handle
    • Gust Lock
    • Speed Brake
    • Parking Brake

    • Batteries - AUTO (Aural Unit OK)
    • Avionics Master 1 & 2
    •      Verify batt voltages and temps
    •      Min batt voltage for APU start is 23.5V
    •      19V for GPU start
  4. Establishing Aircraft Power
    External Power:

    Verify illumination of GPU AVAIL caption on the GPU button

    GPU Voltage - Checked (26-29 volts on MFD Electrical Page)

    GPU Button - ON

    • APU Power
    • If External Power is NOT available and Battery voltage is <23.5 Volts, refer to E/A [MISC] for Main Battery Recharge Procedure.

    • Min Batt Voltage for APU start:
    •   - 23.5V for Battery start
    •   - 19V for a GPU start

    (Battery voltage can only be verified when the GPU is not supplying power to the aircraft)
  5. APU Starting Sequence
    • If starting APU using Battery Power
    •  - Avionics Master 1 & 2 - OFF

    • Fuel Pump - ON
    •  - PUMP SEL set to 2A, 2B, or 2C
    •  - (If crossfeed required, then TANK 1 PUMP PWR must be selected ON and the XFEED selected to LOW 2)

    APU Bleed - Closed

    If AHRS is NOT initialized, wait until AHRS 1-2 ALN message is presented on EICAS (AH-900)

    • APU Master Knob - ON
    •  - Wait a min 3 secs or until EGT dashes disappear, whichever occurs later

    APU Master Knob - START

    If starting on battery power, Avionics Master 1 & 2 - ON after the EICAS "APU GEN OVLD" caution message extinguishes

    Verify proper APU GEN voltage and current on the MFD

    *Wait 3 mins after start before opening the APU Bleed Valve

    • APU Bleed - OPEN or CLOSED
    • Both Packs - ON or OFF
    • XBLEED - OPEN or AUTO
    • Shed Buses - AUTO or OVRD
  6. FMS Initialization (Prior to EVERY Flight)
    • FMS - ON
    • (Go do Exterior Preflight Inspection)

    • Check Initial Position
    • Check the Nav Database Expires Date (0901Z)
    • Press ACCEPT LSK
    • Set-up the UNILINK Page
    • Send and verify FOB for EWBS
    • Check "FMS NAV MODE" and "Q" Value (below 10)
    • Verify Predictive RAIM (if required, prior to gate departure, flight plan must be loaded first)
  7. Detailed Exterior Preflight Required When?
    • First flight of the day
    • First flight in a new aircraft
    • After significant maintenance has been performed
    • Anytime the aircraft's condition is in question
  8. Walk-around Inspection

    •    - Bonding straps, taxi/landing lights
    • Bird Strikes

    Also make general inspection of all surfaces, windows, antennae, engines, cowlings, checking particularly for damage, fluid leakage and presence of all access panels and fasteners. Check doors, emergency exits, wing fuel caps and equipment hatches (not in use) are properly closed and secured.
  9. Flight Deck/Technical Area Security Search
    • Flight deck floor
    • Fleck deck seats and pockets
    • Between sidewalls or pedestal

    • Life vest pouches
    • PBE and misc. compartments
  10. Exterior Security Search Areas

    • Battery access panel
