What is a heart valve?
structures within the heart that open and close with the heartbeat and regulate the flow of blood
heart valve between the left ventricle and the aorta
mitral or bicuspid valve
heart valve between the left atrium and left ventricle
pulmonary semilunar valve
heart valve opening fomr the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery
valve between the right atrium and the right ventricle
what are arterioles?
small vessels that receive blood from the arteries
what are venules?
small vessels that gather blood from the capillaries into the veins
- to expand (resting part of the heart beat)
- blood fills ventricles
to contract (when the heart pumps)
what is normotension?
normal blood pressure
what is hypotension
low blood pressure
what is hypertension
high blood pressure
what are the purkinje fibers (network)?
fibers in the ventricles that transmit impulses
what is polarization?
resting state of the myocardial cells
what is depolarization?
myocardial cells going from rest to contraction
what is repolarization?
recharging of the myocardial cell
what is normal sinus rhythm (NSR)?
- regular rhythm of the heart cycle
- 60-100 bpm
