    • -A return to non-pregnant state
    • -Fundal height decreases by 1 finger width per day
    • -Cramping

    • -lochia is the vaginal (after birth) discharge, containing blood, mucus, and placental tissue.
    • Progresses in 3 stages:
    • -Lochia rubra: bright/dark red, 1-3 days
    • -Lochia serosa: pink/brown 3-10 days
    • -Lochia alba: mucus, clr, or white, 10-21 days

    Episiotomy:a surgical incision on the perineum and the post. vaginal wall during second stage of labor used to to make the baby's birth easier and prevent vaginal tears

    • -Tachycardia may indicate infection of hypovolemia
    • -pre-delivery BP or slightly decreased is normal due to progesterone vasodilation
  8. Describe changes to breasts/nipples during postpartum
    • -2-3 days soft/full
    • -3rd day firm/lumpy
    • -Engorgement may occur
    • -Supportive bra, no soap
    • -Non-nursing mom should avoid stimulation
    • -Assess: consistency, size, shape, symmetry, and nipples for redness, cracking, bleeding, inversion
