There are advantages of using electronic speed controllers. They provide soft starting which is combined with step-less speed control and the use of an inexpensive standard squirrel cage motor
However there are disadvantages in using such technology
State two of these:
-Higher cost
-Possibility of interference voltages
Explain the difference in the switching component between half wave and full wave speed control
In the half-wave, speed control is obtained using a diac.
In full-wave however, speed control is reached by using a triac
When we control a universal motor with a centrifugal governor we obtain a constant speed machine. What is meant by this term?
This means the speed does not vary with torque. The steady-speed characteristic may be obtained at other speeds by adjusting the governor
