    Confusion

    • Uremia - BUN >20
    • Respiratory rate > 30

    Blood pressure <90 or diast.<60

    • 2 = OP or inpatient treatment
    • >3 = Inpatient & possibly ICU

    S.pneumoniae (70%)

    H.influenzae (2nd by guidelines book)

    M.pneumoniae (2nd by book)
  4. OP treatment of CAP

    Previously healthy & no risk factors for DRSP infection
    MACROLIDE (azithromycin, clarithromycin, erythromycin)

    *doxycycline (weak rec.)
  5. OP treatment of CAP

    Presence of comorbidities (inc.use of antimicrobials w/in the past 3 mos.)
    RESP.FLUOROQUINOLONE (moxifloxacin, gemifloxacin, levofloxacin)

    • Alternative:
    • b-lactam + macrolide (high dose amox. or augmentin preferred).
