  1. Airborne Precautions
    TB, Varicella (chicken pox), Rubeola (measles), disseminated zoster (shingles)

    Pathogens transmitted by airborne route, droplets remain suspended in the air. Negative Airflow Room,

    • Gown & Glove if touching body fluids in likely.
    • Use masks/respirators with pt with TB; people susceptible to varicella or rubeola should NOT enter room.
  2. Droplet Precautions
    Influenza Type B, Meningitis, Pnuemonia, Scarlet Fever, Pertussis, Mumps, Rubella, Diptheria

    Droplets >5microns, involves contact of conjunctiva or mucous membranes of nose or mouth, happens during coughing, sneezing, talking or during procedures such as suctioning or bronchoscopy.

    Must wear mask if closer than 3 feet to patient. Door may remain open.
  3. Contact Precautions
    MRSA, Vanco-resistan organisms, Herpes Simplex, Herpes Zoster, Hep A, C. Diff, RSV, Scabies

    Wear gloves and gown when in contact with patient.
