    • I: Superior part of medial surface of
    • tibia

    • A: Flexion, abduction and lateral
    • rotation of hip; flexes leg at knee

    N: Femoral nerve

S- anterior compartment of thigh muscles

  3. Rectus Femoris
    • O: AIIS and ilium superior to
    • acetabulum

    F.D:  inferior

    • I: Via common tendon through patella,
    • to tibial tuberosity

    • A: Extend leg at knee joint; also
    • flex thigh

    N: Femoral nerve

S: only quad to cross the hip joint ; bipennate

  4. Vastus Lateralis
    • O: Greater trochanter and lateral lip
    • of linea aspera

    F.D:  inferior

    • I: Via common tendon through patella,
    • to tibial tuberosity

A: Extend leg at knee joint

    N: Femoral nerve

    • S:anterior comp of thigh muscles ; performs action with vastus medialis
  5. Vastus Medialis
    • O: Intertrochanteric line and medial
    • lip of linea aspera

    F.D:  inferior lateral

    • I: Via common tendon through patella,

    F.D:  inferior lateral

    • I: Pectineal line of femur ( just inferior to
    • lesser trochanter)

    • A: Adduct and flex thigh; assists in
    • medial rot of thigh

    N: Femoral nerve

    • S:
  7. Adductor Longus
    • O: Body of pubis inferior to pubic
    • crest

O: Body of inferior ramus of pubis

    F.D:  inferior

    • I: Superior part of medial surface of
    • tibia
