1. What are negative numbers?
The numbers -1, -2, -3, -4, ....
2. What are whole numbers?
All positive integers and zero
3. What is zero
An integer that is neither positive nor negative
4. What are even numbers?
Numbers that are divisible by 2 such as -4, -2, 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, ....
5. What are odd numbers?
Integers that are not divisible by 2 such as -3, -1, 1, 3, 5, 7, ......
6. What are consecutive integers?
Integers in sequence such as 3, 4,5, or -1, 0, 1; they can be represented in general as n, n+1, n+2, (where n is any integer)
7. What are real numbers?
All numbers, including fractions, decimals, etc; that correspond to points on the number line
8. What is a factor?
A divisor of an integer, for example 1, 3, 5, and 15 are factors of 15, but 2 is not a factor of 15. Note that -1, -3, -5 and -15 are also factors of 15. ANY integer can be a factor of zero, but zero is a factor of a nonzero integer.
9. Multiples of an integer n
The product of an integer n and another integer; some multiples of 4 are -8, -4, 0, 4, 8, 12, and 16. Note that 2 is a factor of 4 but is not a multiple of 4. Zero is a multiple of any integer.
10. What is a prime number?
A positive integer that has exactly 2 diff positive factors; 1 and itself; for example 2,3,5,7, 13 are all prime numbers
11. What is a reciprocal?
The inverse of a number, that is; one of a pair of numbers whose product is 1; the reciprocal of 5 is 1/5; the reciprocal of 2/3 is 3/2.
12. What is an exponent?
A superscripted number that indicates the number of times to multiply the number by itself for example 3indicates 3x3x3x3
13. What is a number squared?
A number multiplied by itself such as 52 or 5x5=25
14. What is a number cubed?
A number multiple 3 times by itself such as 53 is 5x5x5=125
15. What is the square root of a number?
A positive number that when squared produces the given number. The square root of a number n is square root of n. The square root of square root sign then 2 is 1.4.
16. What is a fraction?
A number in the form a/b, where number "a" is called the numerator and "b" is the denominator. If the numerator is larger than the denominator, it is an improper fraction.
17. What is an integer?
Integers consist of counting numbers and the negative of the counting numbers such as -4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1,2, 3, 4, 5, etc.

knowledge of factors and multiples, primes and divisibility, even and odd numbers, and properties of zero and one
