Educated guess based on available information.
A hypothesis with a large body of evidence to support it.
A well tested theorythat has become an undisputeable fact -- does not change.
A condition that exists in more than one state. (extemper stature, pH, exposure to sunlight)
Name 2 types of variables and define each.
- 1. Dependent - must be held constant in an experiment.
- 2. Independent - allowed to fluctuate, the independent variable is the subject of the experiment.
Portion of the experiment that does not receive a treatment, this shows a baseline for comparison w/ the portion of the group that does receive treatment.
A sugar pill used in drug trials, anindividual in thtravail will not be aware if they are receiving the treatment or placebo to eliminate psychosomatic variables.
Some test subjects will respond to a placebo because they are told it is an actual treatment, when it is not.
Is based on observation.
Double blind study
The experimenters do not know whether an individual subject is getting the treatment or a placebo until the study is complete; this eliminates experimenter bias as a variable.
