  1. Cranial tibia origin
    • Origin: The extensor groove and the adjacent articular margin of the tibia;
    • The lateral edge of the cranial tibial border.
  2. Cranial tibia insertion
    insertion:The plantar surface of the base of metatarsals I and II.
  3. Cranial tibia action
    • action:To flex the tarsocrural joint
    • To rotate the paw laterally so that the plantar surface faces medially. (supination)

    *active during swing phase*
  4. Long digital extensor origin
    origin:The extensor fossa of the femur.
  5. Long digital extensor insertion
    insertion:The extensor processes of the distal phalanges of digits II, III, IV, and V.
  6. Long digital extensor action
    action:To extend the digits and flex the tarsus.
  7. Fibularis longus origin
    • origin:The lateral condyle of the tibia,
    • The proximal end of the fibula,
    • The lateral epicondyle of the femur by means of the lateral collateral ligament of the stifle.
  8. Fibularis longus insertion
    • insertion:The fourth tarsal bone;
    • The plantar aspect of the base of the metatarsals.
  9. Fibularis longus action
    • action:To flex the tarsus
    • Rotate the paw medially so that the plantar surface faces laterally. (pronation)

    *active during swing phase*
  10. Gastrocnemius origin
    origin:The medial and lateral supracondylar tuberosities of the femur.
  11. Gastrocnemius insertion
    insertion:The proximal dorsal surface of the tuber calcanei.
  12. Gastrocnemius action
    action:To extend the tarsus and flex the stifle.

    *active during stance phase*
  13. Superficial digital flexor origin
    origin:The lateral supracondylar tuberosity of the femur.
  14. Superficial digital flexor insertion
    insertion:The tuber calcanei and the bases of the middle phalanges of digits II, III, IV, and V.
  15. Superficial digital flexor action
    • action:To flex the first two digital joints of the four principal digits(or simply flexes the digits);
    • flex the stifle;
    • extends and fixes the tarsus.

    *active during stance phase*
  16. Deep digital flexor of pelvic limb origin
    • origin: Lateral head-The caudal aspect of the proximal two thirds of the tibia, the proximal half of the fibula, and the adjacent interosseous membrane.
    • Medial head-The head of the fibula and popliteal line
  17. Deep digital flexor of pelvic limb insertion
    insertion:The flexor tubercle on the plantar surface of the base of each of the distal phalanges.
  18. Deep digital flexor of pelvic limb action
    action:To flex the digits and extend the tarsus.

    *active during stance phase*
  19. Popliteus origin
    origin:The lateral epicondyle of the femur.
  20. Popliteus insertion
    insertion:The proximal third of the caudal surface of the tibia.
  21. Popliteus action
    action:To rotate the leg medially
