  1. Hot Pack Contraindications
    • 1. recent or possible hemorrhage
    • 2. thrombophlebitis
    • 3. malignant tumor
    • 4. pregnant
    • 5. impaired sensation or mental capacity
    • 6. acute injury or inflammation
  2. Steps for Application of Hot Pack
    • 1. Uses 6-8 layers between pack and patient  (cover =2 or 3 layers, then adds additional towels to equal 6-8 layers)

    • 2. Impaired circulation
    • 3. Poor thermal regulation
    • 4. Edema
    • 5. Cardiac insufficiency
    • 6. Metal in the area
    • 7. Over an open wound
    • 8. Over area where topical counterirritants applied.
  5. Adverse effects of Thermotherapy
    • 1. Burns
    • 2. Fainting
    • 3. Bleeding
    • 4. Skin and eye damage for IR irradiation
