  1. What is a Fixed interval?
    when the reinforcer is given for the first response that occurs after a fixed time interval has elapsed. Example, a rat is reinforced for the first lever press after a two-minute interval has elapsed and then must wait two minutes before being able to earn the next reinforcement
  2. What is a variable interval?
    the reinforcer is given the first response after a variable time interval has elapsed. Example a rat is reinforced for the first 5 lever presses after a 1 minute interval has elapsed, but the following intervals are three minutes, two minutes, four minutes and so on-with an average length of two minutes
  3. What is a fixed ratio?
    Fixed ratio provides a set amount of bar presses The organism controls when the reinforcement will occur. Example The organism will rapidly press the bar 5 times then take a quick break before beginning the process of gaining reinforcement again
  4. What is a Variable ratio?
    A variable ratio is a schedule that provides reinforcement after a variable amount of responses. Example providing reinforcement in between 5-20 responses, there is not set number to reinforce
