Ex: As I walked home from school, I could distinguish the smell of smoke in the air.
Relevant – affording evidence to prove or disprove the matter at issue
Ex: My teacher said to make sure our questions were relevant to the discussion.
Motive – something (as a need or desire) that causes a person to act
Ex: The detective searched for a motive for the crime.
Illustrate - to make clear by giving or by serving as an example or instance
Ex: The speaker began to illustrate her point by highlighting her personal experience.
Dispute – to engage in argument
Ex: The two drivers began to dispute over who should get the parking spot.
Flustered – to put in a state of agitated confusion
Ex: The woman became flustered when she got lost.
Sluggish – slow to respond
Ex: The boys were sluggish because they did not get enough sleep.
Persistent – existing for a long or longer than usual time or continuously
Ex: The young boy was persistent when asking his Mom for a toy.
Defiant – showing defiance
Ex: The defiant child refused to apologize.
Metamorphosis – change of physical form, structure, or substance especially by supernatural means
Ex: The metamorphosis of a caterpillar into a butterfly is quite amazing.
Superstition – a belief or practice resulting from ignorance, fear of the unknown, trust in magic or chance, or a false conception
Ex: A superstition is when you believe that if you wear your lucky shirt, you will have good luck.
Reflective - capable of reflecting light
Ex:A mirror is reflective.
Transfixed - to hold motionless by or as if by piercing.
Ex: To be transfixed is to stare at something and find it difficult to look away.
Indistinct - not clearly recognizable or understandable
Ex: When you cannot make out a specific detail on something or a specific characteristic of someone. You would say it is indistinct. For example, from a distance you may not be able to see that a man has a mustache/facial hair. So that characteristic would be indistinct.
pan (camera) -
Pan (camera) - the process of panning a motion picture or video camera
Ex: When making a movie, the cameraman has to pan his camera to show the scenery to the audience.
Assent - to agree to something especially after thoughtful consideration.
Ex: If you agree to the plan, you give your assent to the plan.
Murmor - a soft or gentle utterance
Ex: With the door closed, a person's voice would be more like a murmor (a soft utterance).
Antagonism- opposition of a conflicting force, tendency, or principle.
Ex: An antagonist is someone who opposes or shows opposition to something. (An adversary)
Illogical - devoid of logic (having no logic)
Ex: Illogical thinking lacks sense or rationality.
Revelation - an act of revealing or communicating divine truth.
Ex: To reveal or disclose something (a secret, or secret information)
Wee - very small
Ex: The wee (small) child sat on his father's lap.
