  1. Describe Sea Grasses
    • Are true flowering plants - monocots
    • have rhizomes and roots
    • have pollen and seed
    • sexual and asexual reproduction
    • pollination takes place under water
    • flowers are designed to gt pollen that is stringy
    • It reuquires soft sediment , sheltered enviroment i.e rock pools
    • cant cope with strong waves so it is in the sub tidal xone
    • tropical and temperate distribution
    • LOCAL SEA GRASS :  zostera , amphiblis, grows both in rock pool and soft sediment , has large pollen and grapling hooks
    • posidonia : stahp weeds , high rhizome and roots development of seed but mainly asexual prorogation
    • Ecological importance : used for food in duogons , roots prevent erosion , epiphytes grow
    • Human impact: catchemnt run off ,smal boat anchoring , digging
  2. Describe mangroves:
    • adopted to being in intertidal zones
    • haophyes
    • argely in tropics only two in temperate waters
    • estuaries
    • soft semdiment
    • two types ofrooots : pneumatophores  ariel roots for gas exchange nad prop roots for support
    • Copes with salt : due t reducte salt intake , and water looss by havin a thick waxy cuticle with no stomata
    • have salt glands that isolate salt and shift in pumped out
    • poor public image
  3. Describe salt grasses
    • high intertidal grasses sycculent and small shrub
    • like magroves
    • halophyte
    • largely in estuaries
    • soft sediments
    • sheltered environments
