    gadolinium
  4. What precautions do you have to take with gadolinium use?
    Nephrotoxic (cannot use with renal failure patients)

    •Metal implants or clips

    •Pacemakers/defibrillators

    •Schrapnel

    •Pregnancy?

    •Claustophobia/Obesity

    •Metal clips, watches, piercings must be removed

    •Kidney function must be checked for dye
  6. How does MRI work?
    •Most tissues in body are made up of water à Hydrogen aligns (protons)

    •Once the magnetic field is turned off a radio wave is sent and the signal is measured by receiver coils
  7. T1 weighted image (anatomy)
    •Bone --> white

    •Tendons/ligaments --> black

    •Muscle --> grey
  8. T2 weighted image
    • shows PATHOLOGY
    • FITS:
    • Fluids

  10. What do you se on T1W
    • bright= fat, bone marrow, blood products
    • dark= air
    • grey= ligaments/tendons
  11. what do you se on a T2WI
    • FITS= BIGHT TO INTERMEDIATE
    • BRIGHT ON T2= PATHOLOGIC
  12. MRI views in foot:
    Sagittal, axial, coronal
    Sagittal ⇾ similar to lateral x-ray view

    Axial ⇾ similar to DP x-ray views

    Coronal ⇾ similar to AP x-ray views
