  1. List the four basic tissue types and describe their general function
    • • Epithelial
    • – Lines body surfaces
    • – Protects, transports, exchanges
    • • Connective
    • – Provides structural support, protection, storage
    • • Muscle
    • – Electrically active
    • – Contractile
    • Nervous
    • – Electrically active
    • – Coordinates activity of body
  2. Describe the basic structure of epithelial tissue
Bonded cells attached to basement membrane
  3. What are the kinds of epithelium, and their descriptions.
    • Simple Squamous: single layered cells, flat cells, flat nuclei
    • Simple Columnar: single layered cells, tall and skinny, lined up like Indians
    • Simple Cuboidal: single layered cells, round cells and nucleus
    • Stratified Squamous: layered flat cells
    • Pseudostratified Columnar Epithelium: layered, nuclei will be at all different levels (NOT indian style) skinny and tall
    • Transitional Epithelium: nuclei is round
  4. Would you expect to find a simple epithelium in astructure specialized to protect against abrasion? Why or why not?
No, because its only one layer of cells and stratified epithelium would have multiple layes
