The flashcards below were created by user TheMarsh60 on FreezingBlue Flashcards. What would you like to do?

  1. PC/Server
Devices requesting and providing networking services.

Servers provide authentication for user logging onto the network, Internet, firewall services etc.
  2. Network Card (NIC - Network Interface Card)
Used with devices (PC, Printer etc) to allow communication on the Network to take place.

Has address burned onto the chip that sits on the card. This address is the MAC or BIA address.
  3. Hub
Device that allows several networking devices to speak to each other.

Each device plugs into the hub with a network cable.

They have no memory or HD, so they cannot remember which device is plugged into which port. This causes a lot of unnecessary traffic on the network.
  4. Switch
