Acute Asthma Episode Treatment
- SABA: every 20 mins for an hour
- steroids if no response in 30 mins
- continue until pt is at baseline
- IV theophyline

Aminophyline (theophyline) Indications/ levels
- bronchodilator
- levels 10-20
- toxicity: HA, tremors, irritability, restlessness

Asthma Action Plan (5)
- determine best peak expiratory flow rate
- monitor daily before meds ( 2x a day if sick)
- Green: 80 - 100 %
- Yellow: 50 -79 % - quick release meds, repeat if doesn't imrove in 20mins
- Red: <50% - use quick release & call HCP; 2-6 puffs pregnisone (repeat 3x if doesn't work 10-20 mins)

- chronic bronchitis : productive cough @ least 3 months for 2 yrs - ineffective airway clearance r/t inflammation
- Emphysema : abnormal enlearment of air spaces. impaired gas exchange r/t CO2 retention
