Explain and give examples of chemical and mechanical weathering.
Mechanical Weathering: physical disintegration of rock material without any change in it's chemical composition.
Chemical Weathering: Decomposition of rock by the alteration of its minerals.
What is soil and what is it composed of?
- Made up of minerals
- Rock, sand, clay, silt
What five factors control soil formation?
- Parent Material (rocks that are weathered away)
- Time: longer time = more soil (vice versa)
- Plants and Animals
