  1. The following is a step by step guide is to be utilized when any accident occurs.
    • Inform Fire Communications on the radio administration channel (7A) or by telephone






    (858) 974-9889.








    • 1. Nature of accident, (injury or non-injury.)
    • 2. Equipment involved and apparatus number.
    • 3. Exact location.
    • 4. Type of assistance needed, (ambulance, tow truck)










    5. Extent of damage.
  2. KEY POINTS
    If the accident involves a civilian vehicle or private property, San Diego Police Department (SDPD) must be notified and must respond to take a report.

    NO exceptions to this. You must stay at the scene of the accident until SDPD has completed their investigation or you are released.

    • Do not move any vehicles unless it is a traffic hazard or until SDPD tells you to do so.





    Do not discuss the accident with anyone except SDPD, Risk Management or SDFD officials.






    Request or confirm through Fire Communications that a SDFD Battalion Chief or SDMSE supervisor is in route to take photos
  4. KEY POINTS



    Vehicle Accidents and Proper Documentation
    Photograph all four (4) sides of each vehicle involved in the accident. Insure license plate and apparatus numbers are photographed for each vehicle.





    Photograph the intersection and/or approach areas that are involved in the accident.





    Photograph any other important items that may contribute to the disposition and investigation of the accident.

    If the immediate supervisor is not available due to vacation, etc. the next supervisor up in the chain of command is responsible.
  8. The "Vehicle Accident Package", including photos, shall be completed and forwarded to Human Resources Division at Mail Station 604 within ?
    48 hours of the accident.




    Second level supervisors should follow-up with company officers to confirm disposition and completion of the Accident Package, including photos.
