  1. DPF LIGHT indicates?
    Indicates the need to regen.
  2. HEST LIGHT
    Indicates High Exhaust System Temperature.
  3. FDM-118.
"Regeneration Record" sheet in the Engineers’ Manual
  4. Frequency of regen is affected by ?
    Hard throttle use

    Cold engine operation

Long periods of idling Use high idle when you must idle, or shut down

    Short duration operation
  5. TYPES OF REGENS

    "Passive"
"Passive" – Will occur when driving. No burn is performed to clean DPF, just higher exhaust temps. No action required by operator
  6. TYES OF REGENS

    "Automatic"
"Automatic" – Active burn off of soot occurs while driving. Must be sustained driving (like freeway) or pumping. 45-60 minutes to complete.

No action required by operator. Regen is occurring. Works for Level 1 & 2 regens. BETTER
  7. TYPES OF REGEN

    "Parked" or "Manual"
  8. "Parked" or "Manual" – Park and use an on-board switch to active the regen process. 45-60 min. Operator initiates the process. New process for us. Works for Level 1 & 2 regens. BEST WAY TO REGEN!!
  9. TYPES OF REGEN

    "Laptop" or "Forced"
"Laptop" or "Forced" – Performed by Fleet Services or CAT dealer. 45-60 min. Only true way to check & analyze system performance. Current process
  10. TYPES OF REGEN

    Dealer Service Required
Dealer Service Required – Change out, possible tow.  Costly repairs typically occur.  May void engine warranty
  11.  THE DPF HAS COLLECTED ENOUGH SOOT TO REQUIRE REGEN
  12. MECHANICAL PROBLEM OR WHEN REGEN IS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY.  DASH MAY ALSO DISPLAY AN INVERTED  YELLOW TRIANGLE
  13. REGEN LEVEL 1
IF THE DPF LAMP IS ON SOLID
  14. REGEN LEVEL 1 is also the ???
A “LEVEL 1” REQUEST WILL NOT REQUIRE OUT OF SERVICE STATUS. MUST BE THE #2 PRIORITY BEHIND EMERGENCY RESPONSE
  15. IF THE DPF LAMP IS FLASHING
It's a LEVEL 2 REGEN,     OUT OF SERVICE, INITIATE REGEN IMMEDIATELY. DOCUMENT ON REGENERATION RECORD IN ENGINEERS MANUAL
  16. LEVEL 3 REGEN ........IF THE DPF LAMP IS FLASHING and CHECK ENGINE IS SOLID?
    OUT OF SERVICE, REQUEST MECHANIC
  17. CAT ARD HEAD CLEAN

    OTHER TIPS
On CAT-equipped engines, if the “ARD Clean” green LED is on (next to park brake control), attempt to continue driving or park & idle whenever possible.

This will extend regen intervals & reduce out of service events
  18. INHIBIT REGEN-If using vehicle vocationally (PTO engaged-pumping, ladder up, etc) and regen starts but must be interrupted.
depress “Regen Inhibit” switch for 5 seconds & release.  It’s adjacent to the “Request Regen” switches on Pierce and Internationals.  For KME’s, pull switch under dash toward driver seat for 5 seconds and return to middle position
  19. STRIKE TEAM RESPONSE, what to do
If freeway driving for long periods and the DPF light comes on, you can keep driving to allow an ‘automatic’ regen

Stop and perform a ‘manual’ regen if DPF light starts to flash, ‘Check Engine’ light comes on, or you’ve arrived at the incident.  Consult with Fleet Liaison Officer anytime with questions (page B36 via FCC, 858-974-9891
  20. DEF FLUID info..
1 year shelf life.  Keep in cool, dry place, out of sun

Don’t contaminate fluid ,Don’t add to diesel fuel tank, engine damage will result.  Wipe up spills immediately

Approx. use, 1 gal DEF for 50 gal diesel (2% of fuel used.
