  1. Gene
    Information passed from parents that codes for physical traits (Ex: pea plant flower color.)
  2. Allele
    different variations (types) of genes (Ex: purple or white flowers.)
  3. Dominant allele
    Allele that masks recessive & always shows up if present, use capital letter to indicate (Ex: P=purple flowers.
  4. Recessive allele
    Hidden by dominant allele; only shoes up if two recessive alleles present. Use lower case letter (Ex: p=white flower.)
  5. Homozygous
    Aka true breeding, same two alleles (Ex: PP & pp.)
  6. Heterozygous
    Aka hybrid. Two different alleles (Ex: Pp.)
  7. Genotype
    Genetic makeup; two alleles that code for a person's trait (Ex: PP, Pp, pp.)
  8. Phenotype
    Actual physical trait that shows up because of the genotype (Ex: purple flowers or white flowers.)
