  1. Celestial Object
    An object in space
  2. Astronomer
A scientist who studies space and the stars
  3. Revolution
Movement around a certain point. (eg. The earth revolves around the sun)
  4. Rotation
Movement around an axis. (eg. The earth rotates around its tilted axis)
  5. Constellation
A group of stars that appear to have a distinct shape or pattern. file:///C:/Users/Hi/Pictures/download.jpg Picture: The constellation Orion
  6. Light-year
The distance light can travel in a year, apx. 9.5x10 to the power of 15.
  7. Apparent Magnitude
The brightness of the sun as seen from earth
  8. Asterism
A star pattern within a constellation, like Orion's belt or The Big Dipper.file:///C:/Users/Hi/Pictures/download%20(1).jpg
  9. Pointer stars
Stars that line up with the North Star, making it easy for us to find.
  10. Circumpolar
Stars that never seem to rise or set due to their position in the sky.
  11. Zenith
The star that you would see if you looked directly up
  12. Tides
The rising and falling of water due to the moon's gravitational pull
  13. Phases of the moon
The different appearances of the moon as the sun reflects on it differently
  14. Lunar Eclipse
When the full moon passes into the earth's shadow.file:///C:/Users/Hi/Pictures/download%20(2).jpg
  15. Solar
When the shadow of the moon falls on the earth's surface.file:///C:/Users/Hi/Pictures/download%20(3).jpg
  16. Why do we have seasons?
Because the earth is tilted and revolves around the sun.
  17. Planet
A object in space that orbits one or more stars, isn't a star itself, is spherical, and doesn't share its orbit. Inner planets are terrestrial (Dirt and rock) and are closer to the sun. On the other side of the asteroid belt are the outer planets, which are made of gas.
  18. Solar System
A group of planets that circle one or more stars
  19. Retrograde Motion
The backward motion of planets, as seen from earth.
  20. Astronomical Unit.
A unit of measurement used for measuring huge distances in space.
  21. Orbital Radius
The approximate distance between a planet and the sun.
  22. Geocentric Model.
An early model of the solar system depicting the planets and sun travelling in perfect circles around the earth
  23. Heliocentric Model
A model of the solar system depicting planets orbiting the sun in perfect circles.
  24. Comet
An object composed of rocky material, ice and gas.
  25. Asteroid
A non-spherical piece of debris believed to be from a planet that failed to form because of Jupiter's gravitational force.
  26. Meteoroid
A piece of rock moving through space
  27. Meteor
A meteoroid that comes into Earth's atmosphere and burns up.
  28. Meteorite
A meteor that manages to hit the Earth's surface without burning up.
  29. Trans-Neptunian Object
A object past Neptune, out at the farthest reaches of the sun's gravitational influence, containing pluto, eris, sedna, ect.
