    • LOOK AT IT THIS WAY. YOUR LOOKING FOR A VARIABLE "X" OF THE EQUATION: 
    • UNIT * QUANTITY = TOTAL.
    • YOUR QUANTITY IS X.
    • YOU USUALLY HAVE TWO ITEMS, SO YOU'LL HAVE TWO EQUATIONS, BUT TOTAL IS THE SAME. 

    LOOK FOR 3 THINGS TO SET UP. 2 UNITS AND A TOTAL. PLUG VARIABLES IN AND GO.

    HERE, DON'T LET THE RATIO FOOL YOU, IT STILL YOUR 2 UNITS!

  5. HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN TO USE QUANTITY OF OR DOLLAR AMOUNT IN A QUESTION?
    LOOK AT WHAT IS GIVEN. IF A DOLLAR AMOUNT IS GIVEN USE DOLLAR AMOUNT. 

    IF QUANTITY, LIKE A RATIO, THEN USE QUANTITY!

    AFTER SETTING UP THE EQUATION, CHECK AND SEE IF BOTH SIDES ARE CONSISTENT IN USING THE SAME UNIT!
  6. WHAT ARE TWO THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN AGE PROBLEMS.
    1. IF A NUMBER OF YEARS IS GIVEN ADD TO IT. 

    • JAKE = X
    • DAD =  X + 24

    • IN 8 YEARS:
    • JAKE= X + 8
    • DAD= X + 32 ( 24 + 8)

    • NUMBER 2:
    • DAD WILL BE TWICE AS OLD AS JAKE WILL BE THEN. 

    • DOUBLE THE YOUNGER PERSONS AGE!!
    • JAKE = 2(X+8)
    • DAD = X + 32

    • REMEMBER TO MULTIPLY THE ENTIRE EQUATION!!!! BOTH SIDES!!!!

    • (-2) (6B + 4T) = (232)
    • =-12B  + (-4T) = (-464)
