  1. galvanometer
    a device measuring electric current, using needle displacement.
  2. electroscope
    most common device for demonstrating electrostatic forces, consisting of two foil leaves attached to a conducting rod and placed in a sealed container so that air cannot move the foil leaves, which stand apart from each other when a charged object is brought near.
  3. thermocouple principle
    if a current is flowing through 2 different metals with different properties, of the right combination, heat is generated, as well as another current. This can be used to make a galvanometer.
  4. D'Arsonval movement
    a DC moving coil-type movement in which an electromagnetic core is suspended between two poles of a permanent magnet, or sometimes a more rugged electromagnet.
  5. full-scale deflection
    a meter being pushed to full capacity, as little as 50 ua can cause this.
  6. internal resistance
    The opposition exhibited by a circuit element to the flow of direct current (dc)
  7. shunt resistance
    a device which allows electric current to pass around another point in the circuit
  8. voltmeter
    instrument for measuring voltage between two points, with a high resistance.
  9. electrostatic voltmeter
    a voltemeter that uses the mutual repulsion between two charged plates to deflect a pointer attached to a spring, and can detect and indicate ac and dc voltages.
  10. ohmmeter
    a a milliameter or microammeter in a series with a set of fixed, switchable resistances, and a battery that provides a known, constant voltage.

    field-effect transistor. a type of transistor commonly used for weak-signal amplification (for example, for amplifying wireless signals).
  13. wattmeter
    is an instrument for measuring the electric power in watts of any given circuit, by measuring the current, multiplied by the voltage.
  14. watt-hour meters
    an electromechanical induction meter operates by counting the revolutions of an aluminium disc which is made to rotate at a speed proportional to the power.
  15. oscilloscope
    a type of electronic test instrumentthat allows observation of constantly varying signal voltages, usually as a two-dimensional graph of one or more electrical potential differences using the vertical or 'Y' axis, plotted as a function of time, (horizontal or 'x' axis). can measure frequency, a wave form's shape, or peak signal voltage.
  16. bar-graph meter
    a meter made using a string of LEDs.
  17. utility meter
    used to measure the number of watts being used at the time
