  1. What is the Pacinian corpuscle?
A receptor that responds only to mechanical pressure
  2. Where are Pacinian corpuscles generally found?
    Within the skin
  3. What is found in the middle of the receptor?
A sensory neurone with stretch mediated sodium channels in its membrane
  4. What happens when pressure is applied to the receptor?
The sodium channels are stretched open allowing sodium ions to diffuse in causing a generator potential
  5. What is the size of the generator potential proportional to?
    The size of the stimulus
  6. What happens when the generator potential exceeds threshold value?
Large numbers of voltage gated sodium ion channels open
