What is a gene?
A length of DNA about 1000 nucleotides that codes for a single protein
What is a triplet?
A group of 3 bases that carries the code for a single amino acid
What determines the sequence of amino acids in a protein?
The triplet sequence
How can the genetic code be said to be universal?
The same triplet of bases codes for the same amino acids in al organisms
How is the genetic code non-overlapping?
Each base is read only once
Why is the genetic code degenerate?
Most amino acids have more than one triplet group coding for them
