Clinical Manifestations
Severity depends on site, extent of blockage,& collateral circulation
Classic symptom is intermittent claudication =ischemic muscle pain caused by exercise
resolves in 10min or less with rest & is reproducible
More common in in men
Paresthesia may result
In pts. who also have DM or long standing PAD will be peripheral neuropathy
get severe shooting or burning pain
Loss of pressure & deep pain sensations
Skin thin, shiny, taut with hair loss
Pedal/popliteal/femoral pulses diminished/absent
Elevation pallor and reactive hyperemia
