What difference does an accent make for the personal pronouns? (sometimes the same word will have an accent and other times it won't)
it is called an emphatic form- it is used when the other wants to add emphasis.
What is a consonantal iota? and what is important to know about it?
it was an ancient Greek letter still shows up in some words (ex. pistis- the root is pisti). It was replaced in hellenistic Greek by iota or epsilon.
It is only important to recognize that sometimes the final stem will end in either epsilon or iota.
Here is the rule:
- if the case ending begins with a vowel, the final stem vowel is an epsilon (pisti + os = pistews)
- if the case ending begins with a consonant, then the final stem vowel is an iota (pisti + s = pistis) . but in the dative plural an epsilon precedes a sigma (pisti + si(v) = pistesi(v).
