    • 1. Do not use in AV block or bradycardia
    • 2. Digitalis Toxicity
    • 3. Preexisting QT prolongation
    • 4. Torsades de Pointes
    • 5. TCA Toxicity
  5. Procainamide (Pronestyl) Precautions
    caution in patient's with MI and renal / hepatic disfunction
  6. Procainamide (Pronestyl) Side Effects
    • 1. Hypotension, AV block, wide QRS, bradycardia, asystole
    • 2. CNS depression, hallucination, confusion, dizziness, siezures
    • 3. nausea vomitting, fever
  7. Procainamide (Pronestyl) Dosage
    VT / VF refractory to lidocaine: 100mg over 5 minutes or 20 mg / min

    • End point of medication is reached if:
    • 1. suppression of arrhythmias
    • 2. 17 mg / kg reached
    • 3. QRS wider than 50%
    • 4. Hypotension

    Infuse at 1 mg / min if med suppresses VT. Reduce in renal failure
  8. Procainamide (Pronestyl) Route
    IV infusion
  9. Procainamide (Pronestyl) How supplied
    vial: 1gm / 10ml or 1gm / 2ml
  10. Procainamide (Pronestyl) Pediatrics
    Not recommended
