  3. Ratio Decidendi
    A Latin phrase that refers to the core legal reason for deciding a case.
  4. Secondary Sources
    Materials that summarize, analyze or explain the primary sources of law, such as textbooks, legal encyclopedias, articles, law journals, etc. These sources are not legally binding but offer an extremely useful, preliminary method of identifying and defining the legal issue.
