    Sigmund Freud therapeutic technique. Freud believed the patient free associations, resistances, dreams, and transference s and the the therapists interpretations of them released previously repressed feelings, allowing the patient to gain self-insight
  3. Behavior therapy
    Therapy that applies learning principles to the elimination of unwanted behaviors.
  4. Systematic desensitization
    A type of exposure therapy that associates a pleasant relaxed state with gradually increasing anxiety-triggering stimuli. commonly used to treat phobias.
  5. Aversive conditioning
    A type of counter-conditioning that associates an unpleasant state (such as nausea) with an unwanted behavior (drinking alcohol)
  6. Bio medical therapy
    Prescribed medications or procedures that act directly on a persons physiology.
  7. Psychopharmacology
    The study of the effects of drugs on the mind and behavior.
  8. Antipsychotics
    Drugs used to treat schizophrenia and other forms of severe though disorder.
  9. Anti-anxiety drugs
    Drugs used to control anxiety and depression
