What are arteries?
large, highly elastic, low resistance vessels. elasticity helps transmit and maintain the head of pressure generated by the heart. they carry oxygenated blood
they are called conductance vessels
what are arterioles?
smaller highly muscular vessels that allow for varying resistance which helps control blood flow to the capillaries. they carry oxygenated blood.
they are called resistance vessels.
what are the 3 types of circulation and what do they do in response to low 02?
cerebral- low 02= dilation to increase blood flow to the brain
peripheral systemic- low 02= constriction
pulmonary- low 02 = constriction
what are the normal arterial pressures?
what is mean airway pressure?
the average arterial pressure
- MAP = 2(diastolic)+systolic
