. What would you like to do?
Disconnecting the battery, will ALWAYS prevent airbags from deploying.

FALSE...airbags are equipped with energy storage feature that enables them to deploy even when the battery has been disconnected
Members shall always treat area around airbag as if it hasn't deployed...what is our rule??
- 5" from side airbags
- 10" from driver
- 20" from passenger airbags
The mechanically activated pretensioner will remain live even after the battery is disconnected (seatbelts)..how must we treat seat belt removal?
removal of seat belt from patient should be done, AS SOON AS PRACTICAL
How shall we treat automatic roll over protection systems?
disconnect battery and avoid deployment path
manual system- manually deploy it
Where can the battery be located?
- wheel well
- under seats
You are the first arriving officer at an MVA and a person is pinned, what do you do first??
NOTIFY DISPATCHER THAT YOU HAVE A PIN
What is disentanglement?
removal of wreckage around the victim
the physical removal of the victim from the vehicle
Where do we place the POWER UNIT while operating extrication tools?
FRONT OR REAR OF VEHICLE
NEVER POSITION ANY PART OF YOUR BODY BETWEEN TOOL AND VEHICLE
T OR F
ENGINE COMPANY OPS- WHAT ARE THE 2 TEAMS AND THEIR TASKS?
Officer and 2 CFRD trained FF's - trauma bag and collars proceed to accident
remaining 2 FF's- stretch and CHARGE PRECAUTIONARY LINE
If Fire or Hazardous condition exists upon arrival, what is paramount?
- stretching and charging hoseline
- CONSIDER FOAMLINE
DO LADDER COMPANY ASSIGNMENT (IN REGARDS TO MVA ) HAVE TO BE DETERMINED??
NO, only A GUIDE, OFFICER SHALL EVALUATE MEMBER EXPERIENCE AT ROLL CALL
What does the first Ladder Team do?
OFFICER and INSIDE TEAM- perimeter survey, chock vehicle and gain access to victim.
if Engine or EMS not on scene..stabilize
What does the inside team do before shutting down ignition??
- ensure car is in park
- windows down
- seats are moved back
- seatbelts are removed
Who will bring the Hurst Tool?
ROOF AND OV
WHAT DOES THE LCC DO?
initially BLOCK TRAFFIC WITH APPARATUS
BRING OVER EXTRA TOOLS
When disconnecting the batterY?
REMOVE NEGATIVE TERMINAL FIRST
What is the goal of vehicle stabilization?
to prevent rocking of the vehicle
What are the parts of the stabilization process???
- placing step chocks
- shutting down engine
- engaging the parking break
- putting car in park
- disconnecting battery
2 rules should always be considered ?
- vehicles are stabilized as they are found
- NEVER right a vehicle with a victim inside
Where shall step chocks be placed?
- just behind front wheels and in front of rear wheels
- may snug contact with rocker panel
How shall we deflate tires??
What are the main points for vehicle encounter on their side or roof?
1. step chocks and wedges under side of car and tires
2. vehicle shall be secured to substantial object(apparatus , tree)
3. no members should enter a vehicle until properly stabilized
4. good choice of entry is front or rear windows
When it comes to door removal, what are the 2 options?
victim must always be protected from flying debris
What should be cut first, top or bottom hinge?
TOP HINGE FIRST
if a hinge has a spring, remove prior to cutting
In order to use vertical push, what must be intact??
When will a VERTICAL CRUSH not work??
When victim is too close to the door
When do we use THIRD DOOR REMOVAL?
When victim is pinned in the back seat of a 2 door vehicle
- 4 cuts are: top of B post
- bottom of B post
- vertical cut rear of quarter panel
- horizontal cut rear quarter panel a the rocker panel
What is the cutting procedure involved with total roof removal??
Cut LOW ON A POST
HIGH ON B, C, D POST
when cutting A and D post, cut portion of windshield
What are 3 tools we can use to cut windshield?
- sawzall (wood cutting blade)
- windshield hand saw
After completing cuts, during roof removal, which way should the roof be carried?
slowly toward the front of vehicle
During Dashboard displacement, what cuts are made?
- 2 cuts bottom portion of A post
- lower cut is made below hinge, parallel to rocker panel
- 2nd cut 6-8 inches above first cut
- 3rd cut is low on upper portion of A post
Effective dashboard displacement in vehicle with bucket seats, what needs to be done???
metal straps must be cut, located on each side of console
even cutting one strap will assist operation
Always try to move seat backwards by normal methods, ,before committing to hydraulics.
T or F
Seat displacement procedures should only be used for-------- distances?
WHERE IS THE BUTT END OF RAM PLACED DURING SEAT DISPLACEMENT?
BASE OF A POST
Where do we gain access to the passenger, when vehicle is on its roof?
FRONT OR REAR WINDOWS
Door removal from hinge side
What can be used to break tempered glass??
center punch or halligan (adz end)
