  1. Ix
    - rule out organic cause
    • - Routine bloods
    • FBC, U+E, LFT, Ca, glucose. 
    • If suggested by hx/exam TFTs, PTH, cortisol, tumour markers

    • - Urine
    • Drug screen, MC&S

    • - Radiology: 
    • CT/MRI if any neurological abnormality
    • CXR if sug. of respiratory problem

    • - EEG
    • if temporal lobe epilepsy is a poss
  2. Mx
    • 1. Biological
    • - 1st line: atypical antipsychotic e.g. Olanzapine or Rissperidone
    • - delay in treatment ass. w worse prognosis
    • - Consider sedation if risk to themselves or others e.g. Diazepam or Lorazepam

    • 2. Psychological
    • - Not app as initial form of X
    • - Once stabilised, CBT to all
    • - Family therapy
    • - Art therapy: beneficial for negative symptoms

    • 3. Social
    • - Help of social worker in financial matters, housing and getting back to work
  3. DDx
    • - Substance induced psychotic disorder
    • - psychotic disorder due to organic problems
    • - delusional disorder
    • - mood disorders with psychotic features
    • - acute transient psychosis
    • - paranoid or schizotypal personality disorder
