    • The kanji 月 is a crescent moon. The original form was that of a diagonal moon. The upper part is missing. The curved lines of this moon were made into straight lines. The whole thing was made vertical. This is the kanji 月. There are blurred spots on the moon. These blurs were also made into straight lines.

    • Japanese people's eyes are horizontal. If kanji had been invented in Japan, "eye" would have become 皿. But look at the picture of a Chinese person's face. The eyes are diagonal. These diagonal eyes became vertical in the kanji. The kanji 目 is vertical. In old Chinese paintings the eyes were diagonal.
