All the same
All the same, with so many languages owing at least part of their roots to Latin, where has all of the Latin gone?
In general, we could be more familiar with Pig Latin than Latin itself, and for pragmatic uses, Latin is ineffective.
Miért van ez így?
Why is that so?
All important processes were carried out in Latin, and all important documents (such as the Bible) were written in Latin.
Taking all of this into consideration shouldn't diminish what Latin means to us as communicators, however.
owes much to
As previously mentioned, the Germanic based English owes much to Latin, perhaps some 60% and Romance languages are almost fully derived from Latin.
I mean, what people also need to know is how much accents vary all over the United States and all over the UK, but we can talk about some general differences that people may not be familiar with.
be caught off one's guard
I once heard someone say "lorry" for what we would call a "truck" and it caught me off guard because that's my mom's name, not something I associate with traffic.
not even getting into
I mean we are just talking about spoken examples right now, not even getting into the differences on paper...
Something like "babe" might earn you a slap in the face.
If someone younger than me called me "sweetie" it would seem extremely condescending.
What would you like to do?
