  1. British Thermal Unit(btu)
The amount of heat added or removed from 1 pound of water changing the temperature of that 1 pound of water 1 degree Fahrenheit.
  2. Sensible Heat
The amount of heat added to or removed from a substance causing a change in temperature measurable by a thermometer
  3. Laten Heat
The amount of heat added or removed from a substance causing a change in a state, but not a change in temperature.
  4. Specific Heat
The amount of heat added to or removed from a substance changing the temperature of 1 pound of that substance 1 degree Fahrenheit.
  5. Specific Heat Ice(Solid)
    .5 btu/lb/deg.F
  6. Specific Heat Water(Liquid)
    1 btu/lb/deg.F
  7. Specific Heat Steam(Vapor)
    .5 btu/lb/deg.F
  8. Heat of Melting
The amount of latent heat added to a solid causing a change of state to a liquid.
  9. Heat of Fusion
The amount of latent heat removed from a liquid causing a change of state to a solid.
  10. Heat of Vaporization
The amount of latent heat added to a liquid causing a change of state to a vapor(gas).
  11. Heat of Condensation
The amount of latent heat removed from a vapor causing a change of state to a liquid.
  12. Sub-cooled Liquid
A liquid cooled below its saturated condition.  When sub-cooled there is only liquid present.
  13. Superheated Vapor
A vapor heated above its saturated condition.  When in a superheated condition there is only vapor present.
  14. Saturated Condition
Exist whenever liquid and vapor are present in the same container under the same conditions.  Since liquid and vapor must be present, saturated condition only exists when vaporization or condensation is occurring.
