  1. Peri-Orbital Cellulitis
    What is the common PE finding?
    • AKA: Preseptal cellulitis
    • inflam / infxn eyelid and skin around eye ant to orbital septum.
    • Cause: breaks in skin around eye --> eyelid; sinusitis or blood infxn
    • KEY: EOM should not be affected
  2. Orbital Cellulitis
    What is the common PE finding?
    • 911: improper Dx may l/t blindness
    • C/O: pain with eye movement & sudden loss of vision
    • P/EPainful Red / swollen eyelid; proptosis; decr EOM; visual changes; discharge; can't open eye; fever; lethargy
    • D/t: prev sinusitis; (other) infxn nearby structures, trauma, prev surgery
    • Risk incr with: URI's, sinusitis, trauma to eye, ocular/periocular infxn, systemic infxn
    • {Confirm Dx} CT scan or MRI to confirm Dx & r/o abscess (req surg drainage)
    • {Management} Cx and GS, and Blood Cx
    • Tx: IV ABx & Admission
  3. Bacterial Conjunctivitis
    What is the common PE finding?
    PE: minimally painful eye, red w purulent discharge. Vision not affected
  4. Viral Conjunctivitis
    What is the common PE finding?
    PE: minimally painful eyes; red with watery discharge. vision not affected
  5. Corneal Abrasion
    What is the common PE finding?
