    • Do initial step
    • Clean equipment
    • Uncover residents arm to shoulder
    • Wrap cuff on unaffected side1-2" above elbow
    • Put on ear pcs.
    • Place dial over brachial artery @ elbow
    • Inflate cuff to 160
    • Slowly open valve
    • Watch gauge & listen for sound of pulse
    • Note 1st systolic pressure (normal 100-139) 
    • Note 2nd diastolic pressure (normal 60-89)
    • Completely deflate & remove cuff
    • Record readings
    • Do final steps
    • Report unusual reading to nurse
  9. Describe Pulse & Respiration
    • Do initial steps
    • Place residents hand on comfortable surface
    • Feel for pulse above wrist thumb side with 1st 3 fingers
    • Count beats for 60 seconds note rate, rhythm & force (normal 60-100)
    • Continue position as if feeling for pulse
    • Count respirations for 60 seconds noting rate, regularity & sound (normal 12-20)
    • Record readings
    • Report unusal findings
