Which intercostal is the Aortic area located?
-L/R of sternum?
- 2nd intercostal
- -R of sternum
What is the order of sequence to assess heart sounds?
- 1. Radial
- 2. Apical pulse (apex of heart)
- 3. Dorsalis pedo
Which intercostal is the Pulmonic located?
- 2nd intercostal.
- -L of sternum
- -S1 (sometimes S2 can be heard b/c they're near)
Which intercostal is Erb's area located?
-What sound do you detect for?
- 3rd intercostal.
- -Check for murmurs.
Which heart sounds must you listen to for Rapid Assessment? (2)
How long must you count rates for #2?
- 1) Aortic
- 2) Mitral (apical pulse)
- 3) Record for 1 minute.
Assess the radial and dorsalis together or seperate?
How do you assess the carotid arteries?
Assess radial pulses together (for upper ex)
Dorsalis pedo (top of foot) for lower ex.
The carotid artery should be assessed seperately.
