  1. What is the general term for enzymes that catalyze a hydrolytic cleavage reaction?

    What does a nuclease do?

    What does a protease do?
    Hydrolase

    Breaks down nucleic acids.

Breaks down proteins by hydrolyzing the peptide bonds between amino acids.
  2. What does a ligase do? What does it do to dna?

What catalyzes the rearrangement of bonds within a single molecule?

    What does polymerase do?

What catalyzes the addition of phosphate groups to molecules?
Joins two molecules together. It joins two dna molecules together end-to-end.

    Isomerase.

Polymerizes reactions such as the synthesis of Dna and Rna.

    Kinase.
  3. What catalyzes the hydrolytic removal of a phosphate group from a molecule?

What is the name of the enzyme that catalyzes reactions in which one molecule is oxidized while the other is reduced?

    What does atpase do?
    Phosphatase.

    Oxido-reductase (dehydrogenase).

Hydrolyzes atp. Present in myosin or sodium pumps (in proteins)
