Reactionary social movement
backward-looking: aim to reverse certain social trends
Reformist social movement
aim to reform the existing social order
Revolutionary social movement
attempt to fundamentally reorganize the existing social order, especially a society’s state and class structures
Counter-Revolutionary social movement
attempt to reverse a social revolution
transform state structures but not social structures, and they are not necessarily accomplished through class conflict
involve the revolt of subordinate classes, but they don’t eventuate in structural change
