  6. Side Effects
    • Hypotension
    • Sedation

    • Bradycardia

    • Decreased deep tendon reflexes
    • Respiratory depression/paralysis
    • Drowsiness
    • Muscle weakness
    • Complete HB
    • When used prior to delivery it can cause fetal hypoxia, asphyxia, arrhythmias, and fetal intracranial bleeding
  7. Interactions
    Can cause cardiac conduction abnormalities when used with digitalis
  8. Dose and Route
    • Eclamsia: 2-4 grams slow IVP in 10mL NS over 5 mins
    • Torsades: 1-2 grams IVP diluted in 10 mL NS
    • Asthma: 2 grams slow IVP in 100 mL NS over 10 mins
  9. Note
    Calcium chloride can be used as an antidote
