Biased Samples
Samples that are more likely to produce some outcomes than others

Convenience Samples
Samples that are easy to take
Often Biased easy to get, but may be different from population in general

Volunteer Response Samples
selfselected sample of people who responded to a general appeal
Those who volunteer may be different from general population

Simple Random Sample (SRS)
a sample taken in such a way that every set of n items has an equal chance of being chosen

Sampling Frame
LIST of individuals from which we choose our sample

Probability Samples
sampling methods that are based on method of randomness
 E.g. Simple Random Sample

Stratified Random Samples
population is divided into groups (strata) and random samples are taken within those groups

Cluster Samples
Population divided into naturally occurring groupclusters
Randomly select clusters of subjects and talk with all subjects in that group
 More complex analysis than SRS

Systematic Samples
Select every kth item individual from the sampling frame

MultiStage Samples
Combination of sampling techniques
