  1. What is the use of matching in case control studies?
    • To control Confounding- the effect or association between an exposure and outcome is distorted by the presence of another variable.
    • By selecting variable that could be confounders (e.g race, gender, smoking status, age), cases and controls are then selected based on the matching variables such that both groups have a similar distribution
  2. What is cholelithiasis?
    Formation of gallstones
  3. Describe the presentation and cause of a gallstone ileus.
    • Presentation: Abdominal pain, abdominal distention, Vomiting, X-ray reveals air in the gallbladder and billiary tree.
    • Cause: Passage of gallstone through a fistula between the gallbladder and duodenum, where it ultimately causes obstruction at the ileocecal valve.
