The diphthongs that resulted from the GVS have been in almost constant motion since ca. 1400, with the nucleus of each steadily lowering the development seems to have been something like this:

The development of the fron vowels has been rather more complicated than that of the back vowels, in large part because there were more contrasts made at the beginning, yielding a more crowded space.
